It’s been almost a year since I last posted! The last year has been incredibly busy and successful for SEC. We’ve been working our usual corporate events as well as taking on many new ones. This year particularly we have worked on many outdoor festival type events, where clients have come to us, quite often, from a corporate background. They seem to be happier to work with smaller skilled teams. We don’t try to compete with the big crewing companies, I couldn’t guarantee the quality of my crew on all jobs if I suddenly was supplying much bigger crew numbers. Having said that, in the last year we have taken on quite a few new crew members who have worked out really well and slotted straight in with the regulars. What has been particularly gratifying is the amount of new clients who have approached us through recommendations from people who have already used us before and also from seeing our crew at work at various events. It’s not all been plain sailing, problems can arise on any event, but luckily we have been resourceful enough to deal with and make contingency plans to overcome these potential issues. This week should, traditionally, be a quiet one but I find myself almost deskbound quoting on jobs and booking crew for numerous jobs coming in for September. It’s nice to have a lot of bookings in the diary but inevitably there will be the usual last minute panic calls from clients who haven’t got around to booking anyone! It’s been quite interesting that a few calls we have taken this year have been where other crew (not Brighton based) have just not turned up for jobs. These have been quite big events and we’ve helped out when we could (although it’s quite a tall order when you get a call at 8am asking for 8 crew, a telehandler, cherry picker and set carpenter now!). Hopefully, the companies that we have been able to help out at short notice will remember us in the future when booking crew in this area. I’ve managed to spend an hour or so today updating the website a little, more to come in next few days. September brings the usual manic month with many major conferences in Brighton, Goodwood Revival, graduation ceremonies etc.
